Hoop Guru Summer League
Summer Basketball League
The schedule is complete for the rest of the league. Please remember that the evaluation week counted as a game, so each team will have played 6 more games. Some teams have doubleheaders so you might end a week early and not play the last week. Take note of that.
NO GAMES ON FATHER’S DAY!!!!
Shirts
Due to me being in New York dealing with my father’s issues, for the first week I have ordered some mesh jerseys that the players will wear for the game. I just want to make sure that when you do get the shirts, they are correct and we don’t have to do them over again. There will be a roster sheet with your child’s name and shirt size at the check-in table. Please make sure it is correct(not all will be correct) and if there needs to be a change, make the change on that sheet. If you fail to do that, I can’t promise the shirt will be correct for June 22nd game but we will always fix it if it is wrong.
Schedule
We will post the rest of the schedule by the end of the weekend.
Scorekeepers
The year was 2019 and one of our scorekeepers failed to record a basket during the game and an irate parent who was living vicariously through their 5th grade son’s summer rec league got all up in their feelings and launched an investigation. We were investigated by FEMA, The Department of Homeland Security, Northeast Ohio Quilting Association, PETA, The Warren Commission , MADD, Space Force, The Screen Actors Guild, Joseph McCarthy’s grandchildren, The Ohio Gaming Commission, The KGB and OSHA. This sent ripples through the scorekeeping community as well as local and national Facebook Mom pages. The collective outrage was over the top and out of control and almost sparked a revolution from the Scorekeepers Association of America. Due to some deft and maybe nefarious backend deals with Tim Misny’s rejects, Hoop Guru was absolved from any wrongdoing and was only given a 10-year probationary period. Our poor 16-year-old scorekeeper was whisked away never to be heard of again. We think they are in a witness protection community living as an Amish buggy salesperson or is secretly one of those mannequins on the side of 71(I swear I have seen them move before) but can’t verify that information. That being said, scorekeeping is boring and hum drum, and we pay our high school workers to do the best they can. They may forget to record a basket or take a little longer to do it. It isn’t the end of the world, and we don’t keep standings, so give them a little grace(today’s youth aren’t as industrious in general as we were and sometimes have the attention span of a goldfish). Don’t yell repeatedly from the stands because it makes you look desperate and foolish. If you want to keep score, let me know and I will give them the game off.
Officials
We hire quality officials for the game, and they take pride in calling a fair game. There is a lot that goes on in a summer rec league and they will do their best to call it fairly. I don’t need to hear that they missed a call, or your child got fouled too hard. They are good officials and will do what is right. Don’t yell at them from the stands about a call, as we will not tolerate it. The last thing that anyone wants to see is little Joey’s or Suzie’s parents doing the walk of shame across the courts and being told to leave the gym. It isn’t a good look and when we all did the walk of shame when we were younger, at least it was after a fun night.
Playing Time
We offer every player regardless of their ability equal playing time and the coaches will follow the sheet provided for the game. Sometimes there might be 10 players at the game and others 6. There will be more playing time for the players then. Don’t complain about it being too hot and the kids are being overworked because they only have 6 players. Enjoy more playing time and it will be less than 40 minutes of actual game time, and we will give them a couple of extra water breaks. They can handle it.
Facility
We feel we have a nice facility and try to do our best to keep it clean. Please have your children pick up their water bottles and throw them out after the game. We ask parents to do the same. By the end of the day the bleachers look like a Frat party at 7am with all of the garbage and things left behind. Do your part please and if something needs addressed let the concession worker know. Our facility is where water bottles and basketballs go to die. We can’t be the stewards of those items, double check before you leave.
Games
Sometimes games will be lopsided for a variety of reasons. We may at times(not every time) switch a player(s) during the game to create a more balanced game. It won’t always be that way, but it may happen. Your child may not play for part of the game with his friend request.
Swish 365
We think that Swish 365 is the best and most efficient way to become the best shooter out on the court. If your child consistently goes 2-9 or 3-11, we can help with that. They can get up to 500 shots up in a 30-minute session and we track all of their shots in real-time and send it to their phone to see their progress. If you might be interested in becoming a member, we can send you a promo code for a substantial discount on the already affordable(in our mind) pricing. It is month-to-month so no long-term commitment. Just text me at 330-441-2887 and ask for the promo code. Our members in al of our facilities have made over 8 million shots!!
Skill Classes
We have the biggest league we have ever had, and we thank you for that. We know the skill classes are a vital part of the league and are working with the trainers to get more classes scheduled moving forward. We will continually add different days and times and send out the email on Sunday night around 9pm for the registration. Please know we are working on it and want to add as much value as we can for your child to have a chance to work on their skills.
I am not sure how much I will be around during the league as I will be in New York dealing with an aging and sick parent who needs my assistance. I appreciate some patience and grace for my workers during my absence as they will do the best they can. If something comes up, don’t hesitate to contact me via text at 330-441-2887 and I will do my best to resolve the issue. This is my small business, and I appreciate you taking part in it and will always do what is right when I can. All issues can be fixed rather quickly, but not always in real-time.
Thanks once again and appreciate you indulging in my sarcastic ways. Life is too serious, laugh a little and don’t be too uptight. It goes by fast!!
